Did you know that today, Thursday, February 28th is the end of the meteorological winter season? The meteorological winter, running during the coldest months, December, January and February, is different from the seasonal winter. Punxsutawney Phil predicted on February 2nd that there would only be 6 more weeks of winter and an early spring.  Plus, the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals are in the midst of spring training games and opening day for baseball is just over a month away! It has been a relatively mild winter for the Baltimore area this year with only 4.8 total inches of snow and temperatures averaging above normal for the season. The warmth makes you feel that spring is soon to arrive. As we have mentioned in an earlier blog post, the winter months are a great time for home improvement and remodeling and home and gardening shows. These shows are full of great ideas for all aspects of your home; inside and outside.

The biggest home and garden show in Maryland is starting this weekend at the Maryland State Fairgrounds. The Maryland Home and Garden Show runs for two weekends, March 2nd and 3rd and March 8th through 10th in Timonium, Maryland. The show will have over 300 home improvement exhibits from outdoor decks and patios to indoor kitchens and bathrooms. There are hundreds of experts in interior design, construction and landscaping that are available to give tips and ideas for your spring and summer projects. In fact, you can schedule a free 20 min interior design consultation while you are at the show! The show exhibits great backyard landscaping and gardening tips. This year’s theme is “Films in Flowers”.

The Maryland Home and Garden show had daily seminars  by home improvement and design experts. Dr. Lori from Auction Kings will be doing free evaluations of collectibles and antiques on March 2nd and 3rd. The Wall Wizard will be giving tips and ideas on painting, faux finishing and wall papering March 8th through 10th. Plus, there are other daily seminars with helpful tips and ideas.

When you attend the show, don’t forget to stop by the plant marketplace where you can get plants, seeds and unique garden accessories. Spring planning season is actually starting now depending on the item that you want to plant. Mid-February is the time to start the seeds indoors with late March through April being the good time to start planting outdoors. The Baltimore planting calendar is a great tool to let you know when it is a good time to start the planting process.

With spring arriving in the next month; it is the perfect time to start planning for your spring and summer home improvement projects. If you have your lawn mowers and gardening tools are in self storage, it is now the time to get them cleaned and prepped for spring and summer use. Even if you are just planning on doing a bit of spring cleaning, it is important to remember to de-clutter as you go. ezStorage can help you with packing supplies and storage units to store your excess items.
